What is an analog pressure sensor?

An analog pressure sensor, or pressure transmitter, is a pressure measurement device that converts physical pressure into an analog electrical signal. These sensors are used in many industrial applications to provide accurate and reliable pressure measurements. The analogue output signal, usually in the form of current e.g. as 4-20 mA or voltage e.g. as 0-10 V, is directly related to the applied pressure. This allows you to monitor the pressure continuously and linearly.

How does an analog pressure sensor work?

The operation of an analog pressure sensor is based on the conversion of the measured pressure into a standardized analog signal. The transmitter's processing electronics adapt the measured values to the customer's desired pressure range and compensate for them accordingly. For example, with a pressure range of 0 to 5 bar and an analog output signal of 0 to 10 V, a pressure of 2.5 bar can correspond to a signal of 5 V. If there is no pressure, a signal of 0 V is measured, and at a maximum pressure of 5 bar, 10 V is measurable. This linear relationship allows for easy and accurate monitoring of pressure in real time

Analog pressure sensor: These are the advantages

Analog pressure sensors convince with various aspects. For  example, the transmission speed of analog signals is usually higher than that of digital signals, which  allows for a faster response time compared to digital pressure sensors. In addition, they are particularly robust against electromagnetic interference, compatible with many existing systems and, thanks to their simple design, are more cost-effective to purchase and maintain.

However, when it comes to cabling, usually only one sensor per wiring harness can be connected. This makes analog pressure sensors particularly suitable for applications that  require fast and precise pressure measurement.
